New Delhi, September 16, 2023: On Engineer’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and lauded engineers’ contribution to nation building.
“Engineers are the backbone of our nation’s progress. Their innovative minds and tireless dedication have shaped our country into what it is today,” the Prime Minister said in a tweet.
PM Modi also paid homage to Sir M Visvesvaraya, a visionary engineer and statesman who is known as the “Father of Modern India” for his contributions to the development of the country’s infrastructure.
“Sir Visvesvaraya’s legacy continues to inspire generations of engineers. His vision, dedication to excellence, and commitment to public service are an inspiration to us all,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister further said that the government is committed to supporting the growth of the engineering sector and to creating an enabling environment for engineers to thrive.
“We are also working to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among engineers,” he said.
Engineer’s Day is celebrated in India on September 15 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir M Visvesvaraya. He was a renowned Indian engineer and statesman who is known for his contributions to the development of the country’s infrastructure.
Sir Visvesvaraya was responsible for designing and building some of India’s most iconic structures, including the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore and the Khadakwasla Dam in Pune. He also played a key role in the development of the city of Bangalore.
