PM Vishwakarma scheme

The MSME Promotion Council of India (MSMEPC) has extended its heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and the people of India on the auspicious occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti.

Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated on the 17th of September every year to commemorate the birth of Lord Vishwakarma, the divine architect and craftsman of the Hindu pantheon. He is revered as the patron deity of all artisans and craftspeople, and his blessings are sought for success in any endeavour that requires skill and creativity.

On the occasion of Vishwakarma Jayanti, the MSMEPC has also commended the Prime Minister for his decision to launch the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme on the same day. The scheme is aimed at providing support and recognition to traditional artisans and craftspeople of India. It will cover a wide range of crafts, including pottery, weaving, metalworking, and wood carving.

The MSMEPC is confident that the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme will go a long way in promoting and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. It will also help to boost the incomes of traditional artisans and craftspeople, and create more employment opportunities in the sector.

In a statement, the President of the MSMEPC, Shri Ram Mohan Rao, said, “We are grateful to the Prime Minister for his commitment to the development of the MSME sector and his support for traditional artisans and craftspeople. The ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme is a timely and much-needed initiative. It will help to revive and revitalise our traditional crafts, and create a brighter future for our artisans and craftspeople.”

The MSMEPC also urged the public to support traditional artisans and craftspeople by buying their products. This would help to promote the sector and ensure that the country’s rich cultural heritage is preserved for future generations.

Key features of the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme:

  • The scheme will be fully funded by the Union Government with an outlay of Rs 13,000 crore.
  • It will cover eighteen crafts, including pottery, weaving, metalworking, and wood carving.
  • Artisans will be provided recognition through PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.
  • Artisans will also be given credit support and training for skill upgradation.
  • The scheme will also focus on promoting and marketing the products of traditional artisans and craftspeople.

The MSMEPC believes that the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme is a landmark initiative that will have a transformative impact on the lives of traditional artisans and craftspeople in India.
