Srinagar, December 3: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has initiated a seven-day skill training program on “Entrepreneurship in Fish Feed Production” at its Rangil campus. The program aims to equip unemployed youth and fishermen from various districts of the Kashmir Valley with the necessary skills and knowledge to establish and operate fish feed production units.
The training program, organized by SKUAST-K’s Division of Fish Nutrition and Biochemistry under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India, is designed to provide participants with comprehensive insights into fish feed production, including feed formulation, manufacturing techniques, quality control measures, and business management strategies.
Approximately 25 participants from various parts of Kashmir have enrolled in the program, demonstrating a keen interest in exploring aquaculture entrepreneurship opportunities. Through the program, they will gain hands-on experience in fish feed production techniques and valuable knowledge about different fish species’ nutritional requirements.
The program’s main objective is to promote entrepreneurship among unemployed youth and fishermen, encouraging them to establish their fish feed production units and contribute to the growth of the aquaculture industry in Kashmir. Fish feed is a crucial element in aquaculture, ensuring that fish receive the necessary nutrients for optimal growth and development.
The training program is expected to address the challenges fish farmers face in accessing high-quality and affordable fish feed. The program aims to reduce dependency on external suppliers and promote self-sufficiency within the aquaculture sector by empowering individuals to produce their fish feed.
SKUAST-K’s commitment to skill development and entrepreneurship is evident in its efforts to organize such training programs. By providing hands-on training and valuable knowledge, the university is empowering individuals to take charge of their economic future and contribute to the overall growth of the region’s aquaculture industry.
