India is the world’s largest producer of millets, a highly nutritious food product that has a humble image around the world. Now, India wishes to rebrand this protein-rich product and remind the world of its many benefits.
But there is more to the story than just the nutritional value of millets. Sure, it is a staple in most Indian households. But it is also a great way of enriching the lives of the farmers and MSMEs that work with millets.
So, reviving the world’s interest in millets benefits us in not just being able to meet our food and nutritional demands, but also in enhancing the agriculture-based MSME sector in India. As with the rest of the world, India too faced a decline in the production of millets. But by making a big deal out of this product, we could hopefully see the world returning to it in higher numbers
