MSME Promotion Council Vice Chairman, Dr. C Suresh, has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inaugurating the new airport terminal in Chennai. He welcomed the PM’s visionary speech that lauded the people of Tamil Nadu and expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s great regard for the people of the state.

Here are five key facts about this ambitious project:

  1. The first phase of the terminalthat has been completed was set up at a cost of ₹1,250 crore. The PM also tweeted about the project’s potential to boost the local economy.
  1. The T-2 (Phase-1) building has 100 check-in counters, 108 immigration counters, 17 escalators and 17 elevators. It is designed to increase the airport’s passenger capacity from 23 million to 30 million.
  1. This new integrated terminal is spread across an area of 2.20 lakh square metres, allowing it to cater to Tamil Nadu’s growing air traffic.
  1. The airport’s immigration counters are split equally between arrival and departure sections, enabling airport officials to expedite the transit process.
  1. The terminal’s design incorporates local cultural features such as the Kolam, which is similar to a rangoli. Further, its design is a blend of modern and traditional styles that are also sustainable and futuristic.
